Fire Drills...
09 September 2009 | off new dungeness light
Captn Lawnboy
Today started with one last challenge before springing off the dock lines for good...my steaming light bulb didn't fit the fixture. You can't go without proper nav lights so I had to wait for Harbor Marine to open. A few minutes later I was going up the mast like a monkey anxious to go...put it in and we did just that...went. Thanks to Brian Hurban for cameo stop in, see you in a couple of weeks.
Dad was on first watch so I headed down for a quick power nap before my turn at the helm. I woke to big winds and big grins from dad..."COME ON SAILOR BOY, GET THOSE DAMNED SAILS UP!"
in all the haste, we put up too much sail and became overburdened immediately- good news is, thanks to Andy the riggers lessons I had this bad boy under a double reef main in no time. The wild ride lasted for about 45 minutes then the wind died to motoring again. All that drama (leaving out much between the lines) for such a short sail....Oden the wind god is such a tease!
I made chicken curry for us today now it's time for some shut eye before my midnight to 6am shift at the office. Everything working great so far.
