Day 2 Honolulu to Blaine

17 June 2016 | North East Pacific, 26°47.00'N:159°59.00'W

Today one of the crew commented that we were heading for the end of the Aleutian Chain of Alaska. Indeed we are heading that direction but only till we can get around the North Pacific High which is right in front of us currently. The high has been very dominant here and my concern is it may even grow bigger. Each day gets us closer but we are still a few days out so I'm hoping that we will get over far enough to go up and around the top-the high pressure systems rotate clockwise up here. Of course we cant sail directly into the wind so that means conquering the high on its west side rather than the closer route one might imagine taking. Anyway, all is well aboard and we are making good progress. As we approach the high the wind speed drops off so this AM I was able to "shake out" the second reef in the main and thus maintain our speed. Soon we will take out the remaining reef and will be under full sail. The weather is still very warm. We were hoping it would cool off a bit as we felt oppressed by the heat at the dock in Honolulu surrounded by all those high rises of the concrete jungle. I suppose we shouldn't wish for too much cool as it could exceed our requirements there also. Our Day 2 run was 154.0 nm. Take care all!
