We had a bizarre night last night with the winds shifting up to 100 degrees and speed changing by 5 to 20 knots every few minutes. It made keeping the boat course rather a challenge. It became noisy rather quickly when the helm wasn't on top of the required course change. Then the genoa would collapse and fill and of course boom and shake the boat-much to the consternation of the off watch trying to sleep. Anyway now we have the wind from straight behind for the most part and we are making 4 to 6 knots as the wind speed varies. At the current time we are under 1100 n miles from the Strait of Juan de Fuca and we are just making time as best we can. Last night we were indeed pleased to have a hot meal of filet steak with mushrooms and caramelized onion and mashed potatoes with infused bacon bits and green beans. That was much better than the cold pork n' beans we had expected to eat. The only caveat is we've got to really watch the stove is shut down as we have no solenoid to shut off the gas. The day is overcast with a few rain showers and it is cool. I have donned long pants, sweatshirt, socks and a fleece jacket and still was nearly frozen on night shift. The last time I did this alone in 2014 it was a lot warmer. Now we are getting a low bringing the cold air down from Alaska. Our Day 12 run was 143.7 n miles.
