Getting the Dinghy Ready

14 May 2021 | Gig Harbor
Jan Norman | Sunny
Just a short 3 nautical mile cruise from Tacoma is beautiful Gig Harbor. We arrived around 5pm and set the anchor near our friends aboard Salish Aire.. The weekly sailboat races began shortly after we arrived and we are right in the middle of their course. A fun way to spend the evening.

Today was dinghy day. We haven't had time to get the dinghy in the water until today a beautiful sunny day perfect for a dinghy ride. Well as is typical of boat life, things are not always as easy as one would think they should be. First we had to figure out how to use the davit which is what raises and lowers a dinghy. One phone call and redoing just what had previously been done and about an hour later the davit works!. After making sure the plug was in place we began to lower the dinghy.. immediately upon hitting the water it started taking on water. Wait a minute, Jerry was sure he had put in the plug. We quickly raised the dinghy and discovered there were TWO plugs!. Okay so insert second plug and lower dinghy again. Now where is that key. Finally found the key but does the motor start? NO!. Do we need a new battery, a fuse, or???? Finally discovered that there is a switch that needs to be turned on. Okay, NOW will it start? YES we have finally got a working dinghy. Just another day of boat life.
