Biscay Crossing

Well, we made it. Hurray! As we look back over the adventure of Biscay, from the extremely comfortable harbour of Gijon, where we arrived 6 hours ahead of schedule, the memories of the less appealing parts of the crossing are already starting to fade. We already knew in advance that the forecasted conditions were looking pretty good but we certainly did not expect to be flying along at between 7 - 8 knots for the first 20 hours it was amazing. The only slight downside was the swell – OK on deck but down below not so good. And for some of us the lack of sleep. But as I say the less positive memories are fading fast and the good parts, such as, the bright orange
moon slowly rising from below the horizon with it’s little companion star is something I have never seen before and the uplifting presence of dolphins playing in the bow wave and without doubt the buzz we felt when the lights of Gijon came into view, right on target. If it hadn’t been for the excellent way in which Steve approached this passage – may be sub consciously remembering his early days training and the value of the ‘7 Ps’, it could all have been so very different.
What are the 7 Ps you may be asking? Prior, Proper, Planning, Prevents Pxxx Poor, Performance. Ha Ha!
