04 December 2013 | Approaching Bequia
The hills of St. Vincent are on the horizon finally. We passed south of Barbados this morning at about 8am in a pleasant easterly force 4, and were expecting to get to Bequia by midnight. But the breeze soon dropped to a meagre force 3, and we have been drifting along all day with a knot of current to help us. All the while a series of heavy rain showers have slowly overtaken us just a mile or less to the north, and we have been expecting to get a good soaking along with a gust of wind. But they all passed us by. Some developed small waterspouts snaking down to the sea from their dark and convoluted bases, but were short lived (5 - 10 minutes).
It's been hot and muggy and the deck wash hose has been in strong demand to cool us off, and we lounge and doze under the garden umbrellas. A little more breeze came up a short while ago giving us hope we might get in by midnight, but it has again stilled, so it will be around 4 am arrival.
Spaghetti Bolognaise tonight. The fridges and cupboards are looking quite empty so it's just as well we are nearly there.
