Shortly after posting yesterday's blog we stowed all the sails and settled down to motoring into the increasing E wind coming out of the straits. Soon the seas were steep and foaming, the wind howling up to 40 knots and our speed reduced to a pitching crawl! At 2100 the forecast said Easterly 3 or 4, calm seas, soon light winds turning to the West. So we kept pounding into it hoping for change until about 0400 this morning when we passed the bright light on Tarifa point which is the southernmost tip of Spain. Soon afterwards the wind and seas started to moderate, and by 0900 we were motoring into a light Easterly breeze and sea heading for Marbella, as there was no way we could get to Almeria before tomorrow afternoon, and it would be a rush to arrange Karel's travel to Madrid for Sunday.

But there was no room in the port so we continued on in choppy head seas for Benalmadena which is near Malaga, and secured here at 1700hrs local time. It's been a rough trip but we are here in not too many pieces!

Next blog entry will come next week when I am on my way to Elba 800 miles to the North East. Forecast looks calm, but we've learned not to take that too seriously. Tomorrow we stitch on a few more patches on the mainsail, and clean up etc etc and get to stroll on land hopefully without falling over.
