Pacific Adventures on WheytoGo

Our magical sailing experience has begun....

It was time...…how did we become ‘Cruisers across the Pacific’

01 April 2015
As both Sharon and I advanced our plans towards retirement it became clear that to 'just retire' and reside in Austin Texas, was not going to satisfy the 'retirement gods' - for example: mow the lawns, trim the gardens, maybe some golf, clean house!!, do any maintenance jobs, dinner parties around the pool...then, after 3 weeks???!! We needed to create something new- exciting, challenging and innovative. Something that would become for us 'a new beginning,' whilst satisfying our thirst and passion for adventure.

Both of us love the sea; Sharon as an underwater diver at select dive sites across many countries [Belize, Roatan, Bonaire, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia] whilst I have enjoyed many hours on the sea, power boating in New Zealand and sailing to Hawaii from San Diego and around the Hawaiian Islands. An easy decision - the World's Oceans should become our next 'work & play place.' Furthermore, we both have special offshore places to visit on our 'bucket list. We were reminded of two quotes:
"take risks - if you win you will be happy, if you lose you will be wise" and
"Of all the people I have ever known, those who have pursued their dreams and failed have lived a much more fulfilling life than those who have put their dreams on a shelf for fear of failure"

We visited many sail boat shows, viewed our options, sailed on selected vessels and decided our 'home on the oceans' would be a Leopard 44 catamaran manufactured by Robinson & Caine out of South Africa. October 2014 saw us finalize and schedule delivery for early 2015, enabling us both to set our respective retirements - February and March 2015. We acknowledge the support we received from Peter Wiersema [leopard Catamarans, Fort Lauderdale] and Mike & Ian Van Tyl [Cruising Yachts, San Diego]

April 2015 saw us move on board 'WheytoGo', our new sailing vessel docked at Marina Cortez in San Diego. This of course was following our retirement functions, selling up the house and placing most of our chattels into storage. We knew also that by leaving Austin for a while we would miss our family, friend's colleagues as we departed to 'Live our Dream'...but then would we [grin]...they may all over time come and sample and share some of our adventures!

Our new adventure had begun, yes it was time!
"So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor and catch the trade winds in your sails."
Explore. Dream. Discover. [Mark Twain]
WheytoGo our new home for the next few years as we capture the excitement, intrigue, magic and challenge of the Pacific Ocean.
