It is day 3 at sea. The sun is bright, rapidly warming the already sultry air. Relentless swells from due east, uninterrupted since leaving the Ala Wai harbor, continue to pound our port beam, creating a side to side rock, intermittently punctuated by a gunshot -like sound as a wave breaks, trapped between the port and starboard hulls. We are now well-south and out of the lee of the Big Island. Scanning the horizon in a 360 degree sweep reveals no signs of land, no boats, no birds in any direction. The only sign of external life is a tiny ocean visitor, a small silvery fish who apparently boarded overnight near the steps off the starboard stern. The deep cobalt blue seas dance all around us while 25 knot winds propel us toward the south at 7 knots/hour, even with 2 reefs in. The morning starts with a lovely Simon and Garfunkel guitar serenade by Shy. Breakfast is bacon and hard-boiled eggs, followed by signs of increasing activity by Shy and Mimi, who are now beginning to recover from their respective day 1 & 2 motion sickness. Later in the afternoon, Shy prepares a fragrant vegetable soup to which we add some of the lovely mahi-mahi we caught last night.
