SV WHISKEY JACK

Canadian family circumnavigating full time aboard a 2001 Leopard 45.

Typical Day

The last week has been pretty routine, nothing exciting to write about so I thought I'd give the folks back home an idea of what we do everyday.

Carden wakes up with the birds. So, if Mr Seagull decides that 6.30am is a good time to perch atop our mast and shriek to high heaven then thats when Carden stands up and does the same.
He usually comes into bed and wakes us up with "Buenos Dias!"and then he goes into the main cabin and watches Dora the Explorer for a bit. He is very independent; he can turn the TV on and put the disc in and press play. He always finds last nights stash of candy and his 1st breakfast is a mini chocolate and a "boonanna". When we get up he has his 2nd breakfast of Cherios while we make tea and coffee and then he joins us for his 3rd breakfast of bagels or eggs.

About 9am we tidy up the boat, raise the dining table (it slides down at night to make a triple sized couch for lounging) put the blankets and clean dishes away, collect 200 plastic play tools from the floor, bilge and other hiding spots (thanks Grandma!) and store in Cardens drawer and open the hatches to get some airflow.

The morning's jobs are usually split between Jeff and I. One of us will plan to get Carden off the boat either to the pool, playground, beach or some other fun place. The other will do a boat project or check in with work. Jeff just spent the last 2 days stripping and sanding all the teak trim, I biked to the grocery store yesterday for provisions. We meet back at the boat for lunch.

After lunch, Carden goes down for his afternoon nap and Jeff and I either continue boat work, research projects, run errands or just relax. Relaxing yesterday consisted of Jeff and I sitting in the cockpit, me reading and he researching a new anchor and either of us jumping up every 5 minutes to bang the backstay to disperse the little sparrows who were using the top of our mast as their communal latrine. (Jeff got most of it because of wind direction ha ha)

We start dinner a little earlier down here, just because we can, and we usually eat at 6ish. Then Daddy does the dishes while Carden and Mummy push the table down, get the blankets out and watch a little more Dora. If its early we sometimes walk over to the playground where surprisingly there are lots of families still hanging out. Carden goes to bed at 8pm and Jeff and I stay up to watch a movie.

This week we have seen a lot more HaHa flags sail into San Diego and some are moored over at the public dock so we look forward to making some new friends in the next 2 weeks before we all leave on the 25th for Mexico.
