OLA!!!!!
Well, we haven't blogged for a while - mostly because our blasted wifi didnt work and it took 5 days to bike back and forth to the provider and figure out the problem. By the time it was fixed we had left San Diego. Remi, Steve and Gord are aboard and loving the better weather.
Monday out of San Diego we joined 200 other sailboats (a record for the Baja Ha Ha fleet) and sailed out of San Diego Bay, truly an amazing sight (and we were all in our halloween costumes). We crossed the start of leg 1 at 11am and had a gorgeous sail down the coast before the weather picked up. Usually Leg 1 goes all the way to Turtle Bay but the rough weather made the Ha Ha organizers recommend we stop in at San Quentin, which we did. Weather the last few days has been quite similar to what we saw on the Oregon coast - only not freezing. Gord and Jeff were Rockstars and took the night shifts, and Remi has been awesome with Carden and taking shifts.
Carden loves it. He gets up and does the morning shift looking through his "niocolours" to "watch out" for boats and dolphins and whales. Speaking of whales. The Ha Ha fleet lost its first boat for the 1st time ever, a J120 got attacked by a whale and sunk in 7 minutes, thankfully the USCG rescued them by helicopter (in Mexico) and they were flown safely to San Diego. We are staying FAR FAR away from any whales or dolphins for that matter.
Jeff and the boys landed a 45lb yellowfin tuna yesterday (the Asasin lure strikes again) I marinated it in Soy and sesame and WOW was it delicious! We took it to the beach party pot luck today but only half of it made it to the table, the other half got eaten as sashimi halfway up the beach by people we met!
We have lots of little stories to tell but right now I just wanted to let everyone back home know that we are safe and sound and here.
The weather is supposed to be lighter for the rest of the way down the Baja so we are hopeful for some nice spinnaker cruising.
