SV WHISKEY JACK

Canadian family circumnavigating full time aboard a 2001 Leopard 45.

This was in the brochure!

We left beautiful Turtle Bay Saturday at 11am with the rest of the rally and headed out again for Leg 2 of the Baja Ha Ha rally. It's pretty fun and amazing to see about 150 sailboats all under full sail and spinnakers together and everyone was in really good spirits from the radio chatter.

We hoisted our spinnaker and reached 8 knots (which is our hull speed and as fast as we go - very cool!) Gord, Carden and I lounged on the foredeck (or what is left of it after our dingy is stored) and ate Pringles and drank beer (me and Gord, not Carden) Jeff was in his element at the helm of his ship and Steve was on the Spinnaker sheet.

For lunch I cut up the Yellowfin we had caught a couple of days before and we had Tuna Don, marinated sashimi over rice with seaweed, wasabi and ginger garnish (okay I had to describe it) It was AMAZING and we were all smiling and pretty happy with the world. The sun lasted all day and so did the wind. At about 8pm we were sailing along in silence and the radio crackled with the voice of a southern drawl "I think I must be dreaming but I can't seem to wake up" We laughed because it was what we were all thinking - it was surreal sailing. The wind died in the night and we have motored into the morning; not so bad because it gives us a chance to charge our batteries (for 12 hours - ahem).

We have a couple of repair to do this morning. Our spinnaker ripped so we are mending it with sail tape. The Assasin was injured by a 35lb Mahi Mahi that got away due to "poor angling". Jeff has the tackle box out and is performing surgery on it right now.

We are headed for Bahia Santa Maria which is about 3/4 of the way down the Baja coast. We are currently about 110Nm out and hoping to average 5K to get us there by 9am tomorrow.
