Finally in Vero

21 January 2017
We are arriving a few days later than planned. We left a day late to hopefully miss waiting for a bridge, but still had to wait for one. We had a 4 hour wait between the Jacksonville bridges and spent the night at Metropolitan Park. The next morning we had fog so we decided to stay another night, still good tides to go through. We have had great weather traveling, no freezing nights. On Monday we leave at 7 and have tide with us the first 2 hours, slowing down the last hour which is good because it will now push us down the ICW with the incoming tide. We arrive in St Augustine and go through the bridge at 3:30, pick up a mooring and stay the night. They told us that the hurricane hit right at high tide, a 6 ft tide and the hurricane added another 8 ft, that puts it up and over the sides and into the streets. Lots of docks damage on the trip all the way down to here.
We had a big surprise in Daytona, there are 4 bridges, two high rise, 2 lift. When we got here there were only 3 bridges, it took us a while trying to find the second lift bridge before we saw it was gone and the barges were lifting out the sides. We later heard there was a delay in passing because of dynamiting. We spent a night in Titusville, then between a couple of islands Thursday night. Yesterday travelling in the morning we are near Micco and run aground. We are in the middle of the channel. We get off but water is low for the next 4 miles. Finally lots of water and we arrive in Vero Beach around 12:30. Now we wait for a while. High winds and rain for a few days starting tomorrow. Good place to be.
