25 March 2012 | Staniel Cay
great as usual
Staniel Cay had great anchoring and still kept us close to main social gathering areas. The first dog, Kendal Jackson, I pet belongs to a past Oakville resident, Mark Koivu. Mark and Lori now live in Orlando Florida but dock their yacht in Staniel Cay. We spent the following day touring with Mark and Lori on the tender
and ended the day snorkelling in Thunderbolt Grotto at low tide. (James Bond Movie). The following day we met more fun Canadians, Laurie and John Artibello, that where staying in one of the cottages. Every day we would watch the fishermen bring in loads of fish as we fruitlessly continue our fishing ventures.

Bubble Bath

24 March 2012 | Compass Cay
hot
Compass Cay was once a private Cay until the Bahamian Gov't asked Tucker the maintaince worker on the island if he would like to lease the land.
Tucker and his family have marked a one and a half hour trail to the "bubble bath" which in high tide creates a small body of water into a bubble bath. After the hike back passing a beautiful crescent beach we were glad to make it for their happy hour.

Boo Boo Hills

22 March 2012 | Warderick Wells
awesome
A great sail bring us to anchor at Warderick Wells The snorkelling was awesome, we saw hundreds of crazy coloured fish and plant life.
My second swim of the day swim had Hugh laughing as I tried to swim against the current, he had to rescue me with the dingy and even that was a tough go.
We climbed to Boo Boo hills in the morning and then to the Blow holes.
Boo Boo Hills over looks the waters where a ship wreck with no survivors had sunk. The family members would sorrowfully go to Boo Boo to speak to their spirits.
The blow holes tunnel far down to the waters where each powerful wave creates a tremendous gust of wind that tunnels up to the surface. You don't want to be standing over it when this occurs, as I found out. The sound it creates is eerie and believed to be the doomed shipmates cries.

Canadians everywhere

20 March 2012 | Norman Cay
Beautiful and sunny
Once under the unfriendly rule of drug lord Carlos Lehder, this beautiful island houses a runway strip and few homes. Our walking tour took us through several abandoned buildings. As on the previous islands I am happy to say there are no bugs therefore little wild life. There is one restaurant which is very bohemian in decor where we enjoyed Conch burgers and rum and pineapple drinks. Cheers Dean
We counted 9 Canadian flags anchored with us.

Swimming with the sharks

17 March 2012 | Highborne Cay
hot and sunny
Highborne Cay
A new restaurant on the top of the hill over looking the the small islands protecting Highborne is breath taking as was my snorkelling with the sharks.
I think I spent as much time in the water as the fish.
This upscale island is only going up, with new vacation homes a mega yachts appreciating it's beauty. You can just imagine us docked with mega yachts surrounding us. We could have been their tender. Size does not matter.
We met an awesome couple, Sue and John, young but married for 42 years vacationing for the winter on their Yacht Lucky Stars. They had been fishing and shared their catch of Mahi mahi which was the best we have ever had.
Sunday after lunch we returned to our yacht to find a new neighbour on our port side. As usual we began with "where are you from " which was followed by King City (outside T.O) then followed by I know the Siftons from there which was then followed by laughing because they were Mike and Julie Sifton that we know. It is a small world. Julie, Mike, their son and 2 friends were on a beautiful Yacht they had just purchased.
Biking to the other side of the island had us admiring The Exuma Soond and my new friend. There are few residents on the island, 20 plus my new (old) friend at the bus stop.

Prehistoric Iguanas

16 March 2012 | Allens Cay
another day in paridise
Fri. Mar.16
Periwinkle and turquoise waters take us first to Allens Cay, the closest anchorage from Nassau, a 5-6 hour sail. The island hosts and rulers are a collection of prehistoric iguanas, not the petting kind.
