A Much Better Day

04 October 2017 | Chesapeake Bay
Becky
Day Two-- Saturday, September 30, 2017

We left our lovely, quiet anchorage around 7:30 am. It's another beautiful day!! Cool-- temps in the low 60's, and sunny.

We raise both sails as we leave Fishing Bay, and motorsail out to the river. Soon, we're out in the Chesapeake Bay, and the wind is wonderful!!! We happily turn the engines off. Winds are out of the NE at a steady 15 knots. SeaQuell scoots along at about 7.5 - 8 knots. Waves are about 3 feet; nice rollers!!

Late morning, the wind picks up to about 18 knots. Occasional gusts 22-25. We're making 9.5 knots!! SWEET!!

Lunch today is sandwiches, chips, cheese, and pickles.

The afternoon is more of the same, except lots more boat traffic. Numerous big ships as we arrive in Norfolk.

We arrive at Great Bridge Lock around 4:15. Now we wait. The Great Bridge(on the other side of the lock), opens on the hour. Oh, well; we're almost "home" for the day. We use this time to douse the sails.

At 4:40, we're in the lock securely. We're the only boat!!
Made it for the 5:00 opening of the bridge!!

We tie up for the night at the free docks just south of the bridge.

After a celebratory toast to a wonderful day of sailing, I start dinner and Robert walks Maggie and chats with our dock neighbors.

Dinner is cheese tortellini with meat sauce, and tossed salad. Fruit for dessert!

We watch a little TV, trying to drown out the noise from the rowdy crowd in a nearby park.

Today was just how I envisioned sailing would be-- many moons ago!! Goodnight!!!
