To Dover ....!
27 July 2010 | Dover
At 0600 this morning we waved goodbye to our cosy mooring at Levington on the River Orwell, everything was quiet - apart from the birds, there was no wind and the sun was shining.
Due to the lack of wind - and the little there was, was heading us so we motor sailed out of the harbour out into the big open sea !
We had the tide with us once out to sea and so chugged along nicely across the Thames Estuary to Ramsgate, we were there at about 1430 so decided to keep going on to Dover or even further onto Brighton overnight.....but things never go to plan !
The forcast wind - force 2-4 occasionally 5 - blew up to a 6 and we were getting 25knots of wind over the tide which made the channel very lumperty-bumpy.....Dover was suddenly looking very inviting.
So here we are in the marina in Dover, in a berth which we had to reverse into - something that would have been virtually impossible before without the bowthruster and feeling very smug that our little ship behaved so well.
Now going to have a hot shower followed by a beer......mmmm !
