This particular ulu was recently brought down through the jungle by a group of cruisers helping the Kuna. We weren't there, but from what we heard, the Kuna asked for help & cruisers volunteered. After a very long hike into the jungle, they arrived at this 3,000 pound freshly made ulu. It's made from a mahogany tree & to get one this large it's necessary to hike deep into the jungle. The cruisers took rope & blocks to assist in dragging this through the jungle making the uphill parts much easiers. Anyway, when we arrived at Ali-tupu, the ulu was there & they were finishing the work. This is the boat that Les helped them with by making stainless plates to reinforce the stem (at the bow) & the transom where the motor mounts.
