"Took our departure" Cape Brett at 9am local time. We are away!!
Cleared NZ Customs at 11:00 am yesterday without incident... well almost without incident. You've heard of "Shop til you drop" - with a slight adjustment - "Shop til your caught." Cath had a brilliant idea that while Bill is busy with the Customs man doing the paperwork she, Cath, would just pop down the street to the Auckland Fish Market to pick up some fresh Snapper and some halva that she couldn't find elsewhere but knew who did. Cath jumped off the boat, purse on shoulder ready to go (see photo)- she made it as far as the last wharf when a security vehicle caught her. Gentle though Severe reprimand explaining that NO ONE was allowed on these wharves and that I was to be escorted back to the boat where we would wait until we were clear. Darn!! So close yet so far away... no fresh fish, no Halva... but no jail time!
Everyone is healthy visited by dolphins in the evening (in 2011 we were escorted into Auckland Harbour and now, 2013, we again have a delightful escort out of the country!); juvenile wandering Albatross in the morning. Bliss. Both marlin rigs are out awaiting first strike.
No SSB nets found (would love it if you know of one that we might like please send us that information to williamnorrie@gmn-usa.com ) and AIS is a bit wonky, otherwise all systems up and running - new instruments; new rigging improvements;galley; chilly bin, head and fishing stuff all golden.
