Pippers writes: We are blessed in having a run of very stable weather. With consistent SE Trades averaging 16 kts and our average boat speed 5.5 (with max speed seeing 8 kts!) it is a delight. We just keep our fingers crossed that this weather stays with us for the remainder of our sail across the Coral Sea.
Every morning we check in with "Tony's Net' on the SSB radio which originated in NZ and there are relay operators throughout NZ and Australia. They keep tabs on and provide assistance such as weather reports to those of us out here on the ocean. Trish and John from our old haunting grounds north of Auckland in NZ research weather for us each day and relay that in the morning net. This morning Trish reassured us that this weather pattern should be stable for the next week but after that we need to find shelter. We have approx. 900 miles before we can search for shelter so we are keeping our fingers crossed that our speed with stay up there. Our voyage best was yesterday when we travelled 132 nm in 24 hours!
Scuppers is having the time of his life hooking 2 or 3 fish each day (catch and release). Today he hooked a beautiful baby Shortbill Spear Fish. They are very rare and we were anxious to release him so he could grow up to be a beautiful adult Spear Fish. We are still waiting for a nice small Mahi Mahi which we could then keep and eat!!
The sun is out and we are smiling! This photo is of the beauty Spear Fish eager to be rid of that hook (that hook was one of the hooks that was in the previous photo).
