Fun in the Sun

Sunny!
We worked on the teak for several hours yesterday. The weather started out cloudy, but still warm. The sun burned off the overcast after lunch, and the winds picked up in the afternoon. That was a nice change and was boding well toward an afternoon sail.
We stopped soon enough to get cleaned up, and then took Jim and Lynea out on the Columbia. Winds were about 10 knots, with a few stronger gusts from time to time. It was good sailing, and Wilparina performed well. The river is getting shallower by the day. Sand bars are appearing in new places. I'm going to have to get to know it a little better, this to avoid having to call Captain Ron, the emergency towboat operator.
We returned to the marina and fixed up a little dinner in Wilparina's galley. We haven't done much to get the galley in shape. This was the first time we've had any "formal" dining on the boat. With the warm weather, we enjoyed our meal in the cockpit.
Later, we met some of our neighbors in the marina, Diane and John, and they invited us over to the "F" Dock party. They know how to live on "F" dock. They had a great spread of food, and live music in the cockpit of one boat. We shared some stories with Diane and John aboard their Westsail 32. They have a composting toilet, of which they sing praises. No stink. No broken pumps or overflowing holding tanks. I want to learn more about this. (Check out "Air Head" marine toilets: http://www.airheadtoilet.com/advantages.html )
We slept late this morning and got to work on the boat after having a nice breakfast at Elmer's. We went back to work on stripping teak, and just about have this completed. I also repainted the red trim stripe on the Port side.
By mid-afternoon, in the bright sun, we were pretty well spent. It was a rewarding boat weekend. We had a lot of fun, and got a lot of work done too.
