Fast times on a Gemini, getting lazy and keeping busy
10 February 2020 | still Maco but this may show a different location
Don Winchell | Nights are no longer cool to cold, but comfortable.
This a picture of leaving Fort Myers Beach mooring field. full moon, LOW tide, and it has been low for a few days. Still, the picture thing is tough, I tried putting some in the gallery, but that seems fraught with problems also. Also sticking my head in a computer is the last thing (well almost last thing) I want to be doing and am still doing a bunch of it for various reasons.
Left FMB on Saturday and I think today is Monday. But we did get here on Saturday. Nice place many many many-million-dollar houses and condos and hotels surround the bay we are in, but it is a big bay and very quiet overall. There is a dock at the grocery store and a dingy landing at restaurant-ally. Overall very nice, secure, comfortable and cozy. Arrrr! well, hmmm.
We plan to Uber to pick up some stuff from an Amazon Hub-Locker location. another new adventure. Sara gets new shoes, I just get more boat stuff.
We made it to Marco. Two hops from our week's stay in fort Myers beach, but we did it in one hop! The boat sails way faster than we are used to. we were averaging 5 to 6.2 knots and were hitting 7.2 knots in 15 to 18 knot breeze with a Genoa and a double-reefed main!
we are still doing doing doing, but the pace is slowing. Met a guy today who has a house in Marco, two boats and one is a Gemini. So he came over to say hello, offered us his dock, his showers, his bicycles or his car if we need it. These "boat people" are a different breed. Brand-loyalty seems to take on a whole different meaning.
We may be here one or two more nights. Still ordering things, but who knows. Next stop THE EVERGLADES. we think we saw an alligator near the Winn Dixie but also found out we should have cell coverage for about 60% of our Everglades stops. We really should be in the Keys by mid to late February. We are starting to get the hang of it, but Sara is still trying to get her final year-end stuff done, and we are still fitting out the boat the way we want it and also the way it should be. finding out the PO was really less than, shall we say, candid. OK, let's just say he was pretty deceptive. But hey, we are living on a boat in Florida in the winter and meeting some really great people.
