Ah! New Bottom Paint

We just repainted the bottom, finally switching from the dull-but-functional black to bright and flashy and hopefully also functional red.

Start Line Family Regatta

12 May 2011 | George Town, Bahamas
We arrived at George Town right as the boats for the Family Regatta were circling the line ready for the start.

The Family Regatta is a pretty big deal here. It’s a race for Bahamian sailors, and draws entrants from across the Bahamas. Their boats have no sail forward of their mast have very long booms. Many of the cruising boats here came just to see this race.

The race also pretty well marks the end of the cruising boat party season in George Town. After the race there was a big exodus of boats, mostly headed back north to go back to non-boat lives out of the hurricane belt. At the height of the season there were apparently around 350 cruising boats here in Elizabeth Harbor outside George Town. Wednesday the week after, we heard that it was down to about 75 boats.
