Ah! New Bottom Paint

We just repainted the bottom, finally switching from the dull-but-functional black to bright and flashy and hopefully also functional red.

A Rough Ride Getting There

Deshais, Gaudeloupe
Passage: St. Martin to Guadeloupe

We finally reached Deshais. We had a thirty hour passage- at times we were making only 2.5 knots but other times we were skidding along, close-hauled at 7 knots. It just depended on a few degrees of wind. What we did have was wind - and lots of it. Wind was 16-20 knots gusty to 25 at times. Reports said seas would be 6 feet, but it was more like 6-10 feet. We thought we would be in Deshais by 11 a.m. but the wind direction did not cooperate and we were going too slow. We finally got some luck the next day and were able to motor sail (with main and staysail) and make some decent time. It was a rough passage - the boat was pretty well tossed about - and I learned all the new places things will fly to. John and I both needed a bit of Stugeron (seasickness medication) to get us through the rough patches. If John gets seasick, it's a rough ride.

We did get to pass Montserrat during the daylight so we were able to see the result of the volcano damage - as well as the small town existing on the other side. St. Kitts and Nevis just showed us lots of pretty lights offshore.

Finally around 5 p.m. we spotted Guadeloupe - and were anchored by 5:30. We had lots of boat clean up to take care of - had dinner - and just headed off to sleep.
