Ah! New Bottom Paint

We just repainted the bottom, finally switching from the dull-but-functional black to bright and flashy and hopefully also functional red.

04 September 2011 | St. Georges, Grenada, West Indies
Our camera has died, so no photos until we can find one to replace it. Grenada prices on things like cameras are about four times what Amazon would charge in the US, so we are looking around to see what other alternatives there are.

We have been doing a lot of small boat jobs, repairing various things that need attention.

This weekend we did a hash, which in Grenada translates to a scamper through a muddy jungle trail more or less straight up a mountainside with lots of other people. This turned out to be the 700 th hash that has been run in Grenada, so the Prime Minister of Grenada decided to join in the fun. He hopped along without too much effort, and basically put everyone else to shame.

Mango season is quickly coming to a close, to John’s disappointment. Next comes orange and grapefruit season. The oranges in Grenada are a natural green color.

This morning, one of the other cruisers in the marina with a flair for event planning arranged for someone to come in to show us boat dwellers how to make Grenada’s national dish, the oil-down. Not the most appealing name, but definitely yummy. We substituted chicken and crab for some of the more traditional ingredients like pig’s snouts and pig’s feet. It’s basically a stew of coconut milk with dumplings, callalou, breadfruit, okra, dasheen, and lovely spices.

A neighbor on an adjacent boat has graciously agreed to do some yoga sessions in the mornings starting at 6:30am before the tropical sun gets itself established.

This coming week we fix a hole we have discovered in our dinghy along with some other boat projects.
