Ah! New Bottom Paint

We just repainted the bottom, finally switching from the dull-but-functional black to bright and flashy and hopefully also functional red.

Earlier this year we were fortunate to visit onboard the PlanetSolar boat when she called in Boston. She is the first boat to circumnavigate entirely solar powered with electric engines.

Howdies and So Longs

22 November 2011 | Prickly Bay, Grenada
Miss Kitty, who leads the local Cruisers Net/Community Bulletin Board radio on Friday mornings, says cruising is just a series of howdies and so longs. With the end of hurricane season we have been saying so long to a lot of new (and old) cruising friends. Some headed west for Panama and potential circumnavigations – others north up the island chain. Odd though, the anchorage here in Prickly Bay has not gotten any less crowded. As the cruisers we have spent the summer season with head out, a new group of winter cruisers are just heading in. These are folks who had left their boats in boatyards here in Grenada (or lower down in Trinidad) and are just now getting ready to start their sailing season.
Why haven’t John and I moved on? On our trip down south we were told there were some places that were hard to leave. For example, Vero Beach, Florida is known as “Velcro Beach” because of the number of boats that can’t quite move on from there. The same can be said of Grenada, especially now that the weather has cooled a bit. We are comfortable here, know the bus routes, the local shopping, and have access to $2 showers at a local marina to save water on-board. What more can a cruiser ask for? As one person said to me yesterday, if you get too comfortable, the next thing you know you are living on land. He did not say this in a good way.

So, we too are getting ready to head out to other islands and eventually northward. But before we head north, we need to take a small detour.
