Ah! New Bottom Paint

We just repainted the bottom, finally switching from the dull-but-functional black to bright and flashy and hopefully also functional red.

Bahamas II

25 May 2012 | George Town, Exumas, The Bahamas
We are anchored in Georgetown in the Exumas (Bahamas) after a 9-day offshore odyssey. The weather season seems to have started early and decided to see what fun it could have with our journey. Our original destination was Bermuda but at our speed we would have headed directly into a tropical low that later became Tropical Storm Alberto. Ah, so why not head directly for the East Coast – yep another low forming over the Carolinas. Chris Parker – the weather guru- then noted that yet another low was forming over Cuba and headed for the northern Bahamas and Florida coast – we were told this will soon be called Tropical Storm Beryl – so much for a quiet hurricane season. (Did anyone see the original Batman movie – yes, sometimes you can’t get rid of a bomb – you get it – lit bomb, children in one direction, nuns in the other- where, where, where to go). We ultimately decided the best is often what you know. We knew if we could to Georgetown we could anchor safely at Monument Beach and wait out things to come. Well, we had quite the ride. Spending our 25th wedding anniversary in 20 to 25 knots with squalls a bit higher – and steep seas – now I know what the Equatorial Current is and yes it should be avoided. Due to some fun the storm had with a shroud, our sail, and our auto pilot, we will be heading directly for Florida to get things fixed before heading north again.
