Moving in the right direction

23 April 2011 | Petersburg, still
Bill in the SUN!
What a lovely day! It has been warm, actually hot, all day long. When this place is sunny, it's beautiful.

I FINALLY got the fuel line changed out, including the copper tubing that required the double flares and that took so long to learn to do properly. Jeez, what an ordeal! The original hose was 1/2 inch from the tanks to the Racor filter but all the rest was 5/16 inch hose. So, what did I buy? Right. 5/16. I had to remove the two 1/2 hose barbs, purchase new ones at 5/16, then install them. Only then could I begin to run hose. Two and one half days for the job!

Also completed the zinc on the bonding system. Had to have the local machine shop modify a store-bought zinc and it fit perfectly. The name of the machine shop is "Rudder and Piston", wouldn't you know. They did nice work at a reasonable price.

We had to hang on a mooring buoy during a bad gale on the last leg, and the marks from the tires on the buoy were still in evidence on the hull. I took the warm day's opportunity to clean the hull, too. Wings looks like someone cares about her!

Finally, got the bilge pump bracket fabricated and the bilge pump is once again in place and functioning.

Took a bath tonight at my old student's home. He's a lifesaver…a nose-saver. I certainly feel better. With his loaned truck, I was able to buy groceries, too. He is a very kind man.

Tomorrow is engine maintenance if it's crappy outside, or the Hydrovane if it it's nice. I've got to raise the Hydrovane, our self-steering device, about ten inches. That means drilling more holes and filling some old ones, as well as dealing with the removal of the system that I labored to install. Grrrr.

I'm moving down the list but it's slow. Conni arrives on Tuesday and I'll be VERY happy to see her.
