We're Sailing!

10 May 2015 | At Sea
Hot Bill
What a ride! What a crazy beginning to a long voyage.

We departed Vuda Marina two days ago after a whirlwind Fiji Customs and Immigration mess. We finally got it settled and the Vuda Marina office crew gave us real Fiji send-off, standing on shore and chanting a traditional departure song. I was honored.

After all of our engine work, the engine purred into life and we scrambled to get the boat ready for sea. We felt our way down the entrance channel and headed across the enormous lagoon surrounding Viti Levu, the big island.

Poor Phil got seasick almost immediately and stayed sick for almost two days. He was bed-bound the entire time so John and I went into 2-crew watch schedules. You're either sleeping or on watch and we ate poorly, slept poorly, and the boat was a pigpen. Sigh.

Today, Phil awakened fine and life is good aboard Wings! We beat all day, every day and progress is slow, so slow.

I'll update a bit more tomorrow
