Con 1/ Con2, Mostly Con 2 storm.
08 July 2010 | McMurdo Station , Antarctica
The weather has started acting up a little. We have had a Con 2 storm hanging around for the last 2 days, Con1 at times. Con 2 storms are when the wind gets up to about 50 knts or visibility drops down to a 100 feet. Con 1 is a full on Gale. Winds in excess of 50knts and zero visibility. Usually they are pretty devastating to the station . It will blow apart buildings and equipment. And quite hazardous to be out in because of flying debris and no vis. This storm is on the minor side but it is exciting because it is the first real storm we've had all season, which is uncommon.
