Day One Explore !
16 November 2014 | Fronteras Guatemala
Greetings from the river with the whirlwind of activity the sense of time is lost. Time is a precious commodity with 24 hours in a day and so many choices set before us . As a child in school the clock never moved as an adult its a wow what happened to the day showing that time is of value. Time with people and relationship is an investment forever when our focus is on God and His desires. To see God move in the hearts of people is a blessing sent straight from heaven.
Time has been spent exploring the riches of the rivers beauty. First the color of town and its numerous activities is fast moving especially when coming from tranquil days on the sea.
Fronteras is a main hub for the region bustling with commerce. The smell of tortillas hot on the fire along with meat and chicken fills the air and appetite topping it off with the market of fresh vegetables. Hammocks, blouses, shoes and various items hanging along the street a mecca of choice for any need possible.
Moving from the city street of Fronteras rounding busy curves and houses decorated with people milling about town the road turns to sudden peace. The vast green growth of trees , ferns, and palms turns to a fresh planted rubber planation for miles until the terrain changes again banana after banana rows and rows appear as the river turns to Lake Izabal. Passing by villages and small dwellings we arrive the tucked away village of Ensenada.
Ted, Bert and Jeff survey the land as Kirsten and Meagan take in the peace of the garden praying for the children to come. The peace of the Lord is tangibly thick here covering your being with His Holy presence. Looking deeper the men start to see and the dream begins once again in the hearts of Gods people.
Playing with the children in the village is a delight to all hearts present as their precious innocence touches the depth of our souls. The desire to embrace and love is often challenged with the reality of letting go. They are Gods children and we are here for a moment to bless and to hold to give back what was freely given.
Time to move forwards and have some fun hiking through the wooded jungle land along a small tributary that leads to the most wonderful waterfalls. Being greeted by young girls selling banana pancakes and coco trio. Our guide Fredrico had and eye injury from a machete accident cutting wood so naturally we were lead to pray for him as he embraced knowledge of his creator. Jesus came to save, heal and fill us with His Holy Spirit to be his hands and feet as we walk with Him on the face of this earth.
This is our busy first day out and as dinner time approaches our beloved Luis takes us to tucked away Rosita's out side of town. The parking lot is dark and the board walk takes you into a forest. A mystery tour through the roots of the jungle with water and and soil mixed below. The darkness is a wonder and eventually a light shines as we find ourselves walking past a floating kitchen! Soon we arrive the patio dinning area overlooking Lake Izabal. Having just spent the last 6 months in the Bahamas I pay a high compliment to the chef the conch ceviche was off the charts amazing. Thus ends our fabulous well spent time for today.
