The invasion of Bahamas Barracudas onboard Adonai
11 July 2015
What a superior week with the Bahamas Barracudas troop 112 and troop 251 of New Jersey, Pittstown and Kingwood you rock!
Adonai sailed out to sea this week with a group of 16. Soon the race into Tahiti beach was on. It is for our navy seal swim contest first to be ashore and coconut opening with bare hands to drink the milk. The competition was fierce with all lined up on the front deck waiting for the count down to go. I love the energy this group carries. Geo caching on the wreck off of Guana with 3 clues , starboard, 10 feet down and golf cart, "don't’ be fooled by the golf cart!" These guys showed the power of a team watching out and cheering each other on continually. Meanwhile on the stern was a fishing contest. this week. The 5 lb. snapper on the grill rated high, but did not beat out the 3-1/2 foot barracuda , hopes were high for a hammerhead shark but the sea of Abaco would not give one up.To top it off for fun we had our own casino of poker going to the wee hours of the morning as cards are a scout favorite and we must not forget jumping off of Don’t Rock being dive bombed by a resident seagull wishing for privacy. Next week we are going to bring him some food and see if we can change his attitude, after all attitude is your latitude aboard Adonai.
Each night we close the day with thorns and roses on the forward trampolines. It is a time to share what you loved, what you may not have loved, and what you are looking forwards to. It is a fun time getting to know each other more, a time filled with laughs of the day, hopes and dreams yet to come. A prayer to thank God for his greatness above by surrounding us with so much love and things that are dear to teenage boys.
The scouts form 4 teams for the week to alternate and perform duties. Cleaning Crew keeps the ship in shape, this week with a super shine ! The Galley Crew this week was very creative. They prepare all meals and were busy out doing each other night after night. The grand finale was a work of fine food art, barracuda shaped tuna salad, fins teeth and Granola Grant in his mouth, loved by all. Then there is the Anchor Team, which is anchor watch through out the entire night. The scouts are looking out for the safety of the ship and all aboard. It is a sometimes favorite, as looking up into the night sky has great rewards.
To keep Adonai moving on the sea is the deck crew, who raises the sails, takes the helm, and learns to tack with ease, Not necessarily on day one, but by the end of the week captain had to be careful. The Bahama Barracudas might have shanghaied Adonai. Oh, I forgot we are with scouts, honest and trustworthy !
