Roatan This Island's beauty is the coral reef surrounding it and its beautiful waters. The Islands people live mostly on the coast. The interior is open land , a vast of greenness stretching for miles. High on the hills you can see many new large homes being built, ones that the american eye is accustomed to seeing. The contrast is huge compared to the homes along the waters edge. Although the homes are more modern than many seen in the Rio Dulce due to the fact that they have electricity ,possibly bathroom facilities, and are not cooking over wood fires, they are far from what America would call a home. People's homes just the same. People who have hearts ,who love their children and struggle in life just as we do. Many of the local people are Garifuna, a culture dating back to Africa, once enslaved by the Spanish.
Driving around Roatan and seeing the vast differences really makes me wonder about life and people. Wondering who is happy ,what makes them happy? How can one have such a big house and another a shack so close. How can a man sit in a wheelchair crippled on the busy city street and I in my rental car just go by. This will make you wonder. This will give you a grateful heart. I notice many churches of different denominations spread across the island. Why do churches disagree with one another? I come to the conclusion that....Surely it must be God in the hearts of people that brings happiness.
May we all in Jesus Christ be united,... .For God so loved the world..........that he gave... his only son...that whoever believes in him shall not perish.. but have eternal life...Powerful words to ponder on....from the book of John3:16 niv
