Adonai hosts Spectacular Gresham Or. Troop 586 Bahamas Adventure!

19 August 2016 | Tillo Cay Bahamas
gg
A superior week with the North West aboard. Oregon scouts are amazing Adonai welcomes Boy Scout Troop 586 from Gresham Oregon who are carrying treasures, gifts of salmon , fresh jam and Oregon Chai ! Love the new flavors, thank you! Our very first troop was from Oregon so we have a special place in our hearts for these guys.

What an interesting week with nature. Lobster hunting is still on with the catch of the day on board fresh from the sea. Mr. lobster harvested first off which is a cheer and down the way plenty of conch. But the most interesting event for myself personally today was a grand size curly tail lizard who decided to rest on my crock on my foot, not once but twice then he invited a friend. This was a first for me. Now here is another first while a scout was washing pancake breakfast dishes Monday morning a barracuda came and took a strike and hit the plate! This has never happened before so I am wondering whats next! Grabbing the rod baiting it with fresh bally-hoo the barracuda grabbed the line twisted it around the anchor to be untangled and caught. He was a solid 3 1/2 feet. The good news is all hands are intact!

The heat is on again, climbing up Hope Town Light House will be a work out but worth the view today! The sun continues to blaze on until sunset which is spectacular off of Man O War Cay. Steaks are sizzling on the grill as the colors begin to stretch across the sky. Its been another great day on the Sea of Abaco.

What a morning off North Guana, 16 precious dolphin come and greet Adonai as we exist the channel Tuesday morning to the open ocean. As we drop our anchor to explore the reef they return and the count is now 19 and many are babies !

The wind is picking up as we approach our favorite lobster hole. The sea is up with the wind and the anchor keeps dragging so we have to abort our mission and head into Treasure Cay for showers, not a bad deal! Dinner on board is great being tucked away in the harbor we have the comfort of calm water despite the wind whistling through the shrouds. Another night to look into the sky, the moon is close to full beaming bright, many clouds are building all around but no rain, it looks and feels threatening but the clouds never break free only a stray drop or two.

Another amazing morning a few dolphin are here in the harbor at Treasure jumping around having fun! Wow a triple blessing. Next stop is Cafe Florence for fresh hot cinnamon buns, I have not had a complaint yet ,it’s a for sure scout favorite.

The wind is still blowing, it is perfect for sailing a steady 13 to 15 what a great August. There is however a tropical storm out there, but is headed north of us and will not be a threat, thank the Lord. One more week of Sea Base for the fleet of 9 here in the Abaco’s. We are praying for no hurricanes!

Its been a great week onboard filled with all types of activities. There are many good card players, excellent cooks, and cleaners along with deck crew, and night watch. Gimping on board has been a fun pass time. In case you don’t know what gimping is, it is artistic weaving with plastic lines to make keychain decor, a great pass time when the sails are up. Also this has been our most musical group with live guitar playing. The youth are enjoying all three strings left from a long salty summer! On another note, skits this week were funny very original and full of fun. I love the artistic expression the scouts put forth on Wednesday nights revealing their team names, cheer and a skit all pertaining to the weeks events. This week was the Blue Plate Special, Team Beeeeeeef, The Bahamian Pirates, and the Or-ee-go-nians . The Bahamian Pirates spelling bee took the grand prize, it was a hard decision because we all know pirates can’t spell.

We will miss you Oregon and pray for safe travels home, may you remember the walk down the quiet trail on Man O War, the barracuda catch and all the fish on the reef especially Dora for many years to come.
