day 3 Rio to the Florida Keys post covid
23 February 2021 | Cucumber Marina Old Belize
Gail Gordon | rain to sun
As we placed our anchor down last night a mile and half off of Cucumber Marina we were greeted by a formation of black flies who looked like they were in attack mode. As the sunset they moved inside our boat and took up residency. Besides our uninvited visitors it was a great night out on the hook, especially because we received our approval from the Ministry of Defense to be in Belize waters.
The sun rose and the rain fell as we waited to hear from our agent Carolyn who is wonderful. We still need approval from the Port Captain, Health official, Customs and Immigrations. We have negative covid tests from Livingston and our zarpe. There is a 48 hours what period to enter Belize after approval to enter. Just after noon we were allow to come into the marina from our designated anchor coordinates.
Pulling up the anchor another formation of war looking creatures were hanging off our starboard stern in the water. A very unusually sight just as strange as the bugs in the air. They all looked like they were in an attack mode. I am glad they were all very small or I may have been intimidated. Motoring towards the entrance of Cucumber Marina is a narrow entrance way between two rock lined jetties. The area is quiet, what is usually filled with tourists, currently is empty and closed. We were greeted with friendly mask covered help form the marina, and soon by all the authorities except for Immigrations.
For some reason we are welcomed by everyone but Immigrations, so we are not allow to get off our vessel. We do not understand why, but we are here, and it is good.
Belize has been closed to boaters since the onset of covid. We are the first boat to come in here since the onset of covid. It is just last week that they are opening up the waterways to travelers. It is a mystery as you are able to fly in and move about as long as you stay at a gold star rated accommodation which includes some charter boats.
Regardless we are in a safe harbor and have been granted permission to refuel, get water and our friend Sherman will bring us some food provisions.
God is good, tomorrow is another day !
