Day 17 Galagapos to Marquesas

09 March 2008 | Gabriella South Pacific Ocean
gg
Greetings everyone. I am not sure if my blog has been posting so bear with me if some of this is a repeat. Day 14 and 15 My spirit is up today I don't understand why since last night was bouncy as can be. In my bunk I felt like a mexican jumping bean which is the same as popcorn on a trampoline. Shane was rolled around quite well his back is in pain please pray for releif. One day you feel great and the next you may feel quite different. This day is a fine day as Gabriella is surfing and swaying on the seas. The wind is steady around 18 the sun is shinning and the seas building. An unusal fish was on the trampoline he looked like a snake very long and skinny having small fins.We are getting very close to turning our chart over thus we will see land on paper! Sun has gone down and here I am in my favorite time looking out to the stars eeing the great creation of a mighty God. Breath taking words cannot decribe this beauty. Today day 15 we turn the page a milestone of milestones! 976 miles to go! Day 16...O.K. at the moment I have had enough. Beam me up Scotty! The good news 824 miles to land and the seas have calmed down. We are sailing downwind with the spinaker flying in the breeze of 12 knots. Last night a frequent flyer landed in my lap out in the cockpit. I screamed not knowing what came out of the darkness. Ted came to my rescue throwing the cute but rather strong smelling flying fish back to the sea.The waves had picked up so I decided to sleep in the main salon, I didn't want a repeat of the previous night. I awoke feeling like I had been beaten by a conch hammer with the occasional round of a machine gun blast to the beat of the Jolly Green Giant. Wow the waves were just pounding on Gabriella's surface from underneath. I was more than giggled this time . Oh ,but to arise and look out and see the big dipper on the horizon starboard side and the southern cross on the port made it all worth while. So I staggered my way to this time the aft bunk.Lying down I felt as I was being kneaded like a loaf of wonder bread from the sea with just the occassional slam as to make sure I didn't rise to high to the beat of a powerful ocean. Just another night aboard you see sleeping is no easy chore around here. This morning was sunny with knee deep water in the starboard engine room. What a suprise, Ted to the rescue pumping out the oily sea water he diagonised the trouble rather quickly and all was back in order before Trevor and Shane arose from sleeping off the late night watches. I must tell you about the men God has put in my life on this crossing. My wonderful husband Captain Ted he is myterious you see, full of knowledge of the sea. Calm in a crisis he never ceaces to amaze me.Trevor our son following in his fathers foot steps is becoming a gallant warrior, when serious situations arises Trevor is there courageous and ready for the task at hand. Our friend Shane has sailed many miles with us and he is wise. I notice he keeps saftey in mind, is strong, attentive ,allert and methodical a great leader. It is a pleasure to have him aboard. I am extremely blessed to be sailing with a team, a team of God's men. I feel protected and safe. I watch as God is forever changing and molding us as we grow closer across the vast distance of the South Pacific Ocean. With this I close , look around and see the great men and women God has surrounded you with, they really are all over the place, take the time to see. Love gg Day 17 Sunday...Present time praise God as we sail on. It appears in 5 days from today we will step on land God willing. I looked this morning at the wind and saw 37! Picked up a bit another wild ride through the night. A few squalls are about but as the day passes so doesn't the storm . The sun is shining and the wind has settled in at 18- 22 good spinacker weather we are sailing 8 to 9 today. This Pacific Ocean is different compared to Alantic /Carribean sailing from Florida to Panama we saw much depris in the water. In these past 2 weeks plus we saw a bouy ,a rag and what looked like a blackflag on a float thats about it for alein floating objects. Occasional a sea bird will come look at us and the last porpoise was 2 weeks ago with the whales. Our sailing speed has not been the best for fishing although the abundance of frequent flyers are every where on our decks and in our hatches and 100's flying over the water. The sad news is our blender died no more smoothies but a crop of fresh sprouts have grown. Looking fowards to sharing some photos at our next internet cafe until then chose to be blessed in the name of Jesus. Love always Gail P.S. Happy Birthday DAD tomorrow love Gail
