Vaitape, Bora Bora
24 April 2008 | French Polynesia
The Mountainside of Bora Bora is nice to look at as it towers above. Today we have been busy checking out of the country. All went well with the Gendarmerie next was the bank. We had to put up a large bond on entry and today we spent much time in the bank retrieving our funds what was left of them after bank charges and their cut of the the money exchange then to top it off a service fee for the exchange. Wow it was legal robbery the bank had a good day. Final refueling of Gabriella and dinghy is complete but no propane on the island Tahiti is their source. A few more groceries, the post office, and Bills airline ticket. Buying an airline ticket in French Polynesia is difficult as we already know and we failed. We will have to buy the ticket in the Cooks for some reason it is very complicated and that is the way that it is. Somethings are better to just accept than try to understand or battle you will come up loosing every-time! Ted and I de-stressed with a long swim in very fine water close to sunset and all is well.
Tonight was interesting the President was flying in from Tahiti . He was greeted with a large party everyone from Bora Bora was coming to the tent building in Viatape. The dock was lined torches and were lit on the Presidents arrival sending out smoke and a firework of color to the sound of local drumming. So many flowers were placed on him you could barely see his head. Love and respect from the people was evident through song and dance on stage followed by prayer and gratitude. Eventually dinner was to be served to all. It was getting late so we returned to Gabriella sure that all would be having a fine evening in town.
