Arrive The Kindom of Tonga
21 May 2008 | Gabriella South Pacific Ocean
Gabriella arrives Tonga greeted by the welcoming committee of dolphins.Leaving Nuie 47 hours ago we had to pass through the Tonga Trench of 29,000 feet of sea water which explains the wave of over 80 feet which trashed part of Niue in 2004 Hurricane! Tonga reminds me of the everglades except for the deep water and higher grounds it has many scattered small islands. Most of our travel has been in sunshine and smooth sailing until last night mid-night when the rain returned and the wind switched from east to north at 20 to 30 still so this morning making our entrance into and through the reef extremely rough. Being now inside the reef protected by the many islands the rain is letting up and the effects of the wind minor with new land to explore and people to meet we start a new day.
