Adventures with Shane
Shane was born on Niue and went to Canada 19 years ago with YWAM. Today he is in the process of translating the New Testament into current Niue Language and plans to move back to Niue soon. Take the time and look at his web site: www.NiueBible.com Shane is here with his son Reid they are visiting family for a few more weeks and have taken the time to show us more of Niue. It is nice to have local guides. We drove around the island passing through villages stopping to see the vanilla beans growing on the vine like plant, we pass a large noni grower, many churches and pick papaya at a friends farm and see the many pigs. Continuing on the road which is desolate between villages, quiet and beautiful with all its green lush vegetation. The villages are small with many vacant homes as the population is shrinking. The pavement eventually turns to dirt as we enter the rain forest region. Shane stops at a sign that says Togo. We are now on the windy side of the island. The sky is becoming overcast and you can see the wind in the trees. We start to walk a root covered path into the rain forest, white lily flowers have fallen on the ground and red berries decorate our 20 minute walk leading out to a very windy lava spiked cliffy hill side. The path turns to a single cement walk way with steps leading down farther into the sharp wind beaten spirals of limestone. The view of open ocean is before you eyes and the wind is howling and the rain spitting. I wouldn't miss this walk for anything as we round a corner the next surprise is a ladder of 50 feet taking you even farther down the cliff hillside to Niue beach a small patch of sand with a few palm trees hidden in the caves of rock . I can hear the ocean and if you squeeze into the darkness of a cave crevice you will climb your way through to the ocean which is crashing among many more jagged rocks. What a place on the planet God has created. It is magical beautiful mysterious............Thank you Shane ...................
