Garden of Sleeping Giants
A wonderful day spent in Fiji with Todd and Renee. The journey was to the Garden of the Sleeping Giants. A garden made for strolling on a lovely groomed path through the tropical jungle over lily ponds you are surrounded by Gods beauty acres of orchids and other flowering plants. The allure of the boundary fence was too much for a mountain climber like Todd even with his broken arm from mountain biking, so over we all went for the real adventure. Climbing the rocky mountainside, trampling over stall grasses and crawling under jungle scrubs we made it with sticky burrs in our hair to the top to look out. The sun was hot and the view tremendous looking over tree tops to the ocean seeing birds in the budding tree tops singing songs of praise. Afterwards the groomed path was so much more enjoyed and the cold tropical fruit drink awaiting near the white wicker chairs was ever so refreshing.
We all had quite the appetite and ventured on to find lunch. Foreign countries are always a surprise at meal time. The Thai restaurant was closed so we ended up at the Bounty . We spent much time here relaxing while waiting for our food which felt like an eternity. The conversation was awesome and the food was well let us say we are grateful Ted didn't get food poisoning as his burger had an aroma unknown to us.
The day ended with Trevor returning to the hotel with Todd and Renee for pool time and internet while Ted and I stayed in town to purchase supplies for Gabriella. The grocery store was full of spices new to me and an entire isle was dedicated to your Om-ing alter. Incense and statues to choose from of various scents and colors. Fiji has a large population of Indians. Checking out and continuing across the street was my favorite the fruit and veggie open air market. Pineapple , paw paw, cucumbers, lettuce, cabbage roots galore all fresh and inviting to a vegetarians taste buds. Ted and I rode back to the marina in a taxi van filling the dingy with our purchase to head out to Gabriella she is now at anchor. After unloading and storing the food it was time to go back ashore to find our precious son Trevor. He was sitting in the internet room safe and sound with a smile on his face conversing with Renee. A sight to warm a mothers heart.
