Scooters and Windsurfing
13 July 2008 | Savusavu Fiji
08/7/11 Windsurfing in Savusavu Bay is some what crazy. The water is rushing through like a river and the wind was overpowering my sail. After battling mother nature for a good hour Ted picked me up in the dingy and I went back to swimming saying hello to my fish friends and looking at the 13 jumbo clams admiring the beauty recovering from the feelings of my windsurf defeat. The soft corals stand out today with the sun reflecting showing mauve lavender and feathery golden tan. Swimming is much less of a battle and results in joy instead of world war 3 of Gail and the sea!
08/7/12 Scooters on the Island
Renting scooters sound like a good time. We never made it out of the parking lot one scooter had mechanical trouble. Back to windsurfing this time a smaller sail and board with a wave fin. Even rigging down to my 4.6 I was still over powered. I did manage more success than yesterday and wonder how I held on at all to the 5.6 on Berkey. The wind has had me fooled my judgement has been way off on the power being whirled about.
Sunday Morning and Church in Savusavu has started the day. On return to Gabriella Ted and I took a walk in a new direction finding a palm forest filled with thousands of 100 foot tall coconut palms. A path winded down the hillside through the trees to the beach. Yellow butterflies were fluttering over the yellow and purple wild flowers and a horse was grazing in the distant trees. The wind is strong in the tree tops and has changed directions a few degrees it is feeling like it may possible let up some soon. The beach is sandy and looks across the flats to the breaking reef out into the deep ocean. This is a delightful corner of the island one you dream about quiet and peaceful surrounded by Gods nature.
