Looking around Savusavu
14 July 2008 | Savusavu Fiji
A car trip broke up the routine of Savusavu. We drove the rental car up in the mountains on the pothole filled roadway passing small local villages leading us up into the rain forest of the tropical South Pacific. The view was grand looking over the wilderness past town seeing the harbor and beyond. The air turned much cooler with the height of the mountain. Heading back down to town many homes are tucked away above the inlet and town. We explored nearby steep narrow dirt roads and driveways with sharp curves on cliff sides rather thrilling when you look down. A nice highway was found which led through the flat lands to the windy side of the island where a few upscale resorts have found the beauty of Fiji. The car trip was interesting and gave us a better feel for the island.
Our routine has been taking the dingy into town in the morning for internet time although .mac has been down for many days. We are anchored out at the point 10 minutes away. In the evening I will swim and look at the fish and coral ending the day as the sun sets over the distant mountain. Looking out at times you may see a mackerel jump sky high out of the water some 20 to 30 feet no exaggerating for it is an amazing sight the mackerel is chasing and feeding on small flying fish.
Gabriella's sale is progressing as insurance was bound today for Todd and Renee who will now be flying out to Fiji along with my friend Janet from Palm Beach to sail Gabriella back home to the USA.
