Hello, word from Gabriella has been quiet. I am waiting on wind in the Gorge and Gabriella to come ashore . I am in the best of company with Cindy, Lisa and John and we all are waiting on wind together. Word came today an email from Janet aboard Gabriella to Robin in Palm Beach via Renee thankyou for update. gg
Email from Janet :
The center of the Pacific High is north of Hi. So, having endured the NE wind on the east side, they are powering north through the calm center of it, to get to the westerlies on the other side
(recall that a high has a clockwise wind flow around the center where there is generally no breeze).
Those westerlies are in fact, there. However they are not at this point particularly strong - 10kts. The old story of sailing to Southern California by sailing 900 miles north and then turning right may not be so far off. I had suggested earlier today that tomorrow (Thurs) would be the day to turn right. We'll see.
Janwt email Wed night:
"Last night was the most calm and clear thus far. Not a ripple of breeze and not a cloud in the sky. Lot's of moon light and plenty of stars. This AM was the first I saw of any trash out on the water; Sad, no people, but plenty of evidence of what they think of doing with unwanted garbage. Lightbreeze today. We are full steam ahead, still heading north, not quite ready to head east just yet.
32'53 North 156'30 West and a meager 757 nautical miles from Oahu."
Ted (the captain) had suggested a turn to the right between 35 and 37 North, about 180-250 miles (1-2 days) north of their present position.
