Working Our Way North

Photo: We flew from Guaymas where we put Kasasa to bed for the summer, to La Paz to pick up the car. This is the island Espiritu Santo just north of La Paz as we flew over it last week. Looking into the bay Ensenada Grande one of our favourites.
Boats, planes and automobiles! We've done it all in the past few weeks. We got Kasasa all closed up for the summer in Guaymas in dry storage. We then flew back to La Paz on Aereo Calafia in a 13 seater airplane. What took almost 2 weeks in the boat took an hour and a half by plane. It was pretty cool to see the sea from up above and to see some of the places where we had been to in our boat.
We left La Paz on the 4th and started our drive north. Our first stopover was in Conception Bay at Santispac where we had friends Steve and Sue from the boat Kashmira out in the anchorage. We had a great dinner with them on the beach and then spent the night onboard and had a great evening catching up and talking about times past spent together.
Next morning we set off and headed north. Got to El Rosario where we spent the night in a great little motel (bad me I can't remember the name) but it's south end of El Rosario and the hotel shares a sign with a big Coke sign. Great little clean room with a king size bed, very fast wifi and all for 22 dollars! I miss Mexico prices already.
From there we headed north to the boarder and this goes into that WHAT WERE WE THINKING category as we decided to go through the boarder in Tijauana on a Sunday afternoon!!! We arrived at the boarder line up at 3:30pm and at 7:30 we finally made it up to the actual boarder. During those 4 hours of sitting in the hot sun, we had Mexcian's selling everything under the sun. They were constantly streaming by the car selling things. The one thing that they were selling that made me really sad is little puppies. Who buys a puppy in a boarder line up I wonder. Anyhow I ask the boarder guard when we finally got up there if they let the puppies through. He said yes they do but he also said that most of them don't survive more than 7 or 8 days as they are taken from their mom's way too soon. I never said it to him but I wonder why they just don't refuse to let them through. Then the people would stop selling them. To logical I guess.
Anyhow a few days of driving later and here we are in Pendelton, Oregon. Last night we were in Reno and stayed at a 4 star hotel/casino which we booked online for a whopping $32 bucks. Really nice room. Best so far in the states and the cheapest. Spent about 20 dollars total in the casino and had a nice dinner.
Tomorrow evening we should be in BC and will be spending the next few weeks visiting with friends until we return to Nanaimo to start work in early May. It's been a fun winter and trip but I'm looking forward to staying put for a few months too.
