At anchor off Cambrils

We were up early on Wednesday. In fact, too early. The alarm was set for 6am, but it was not light until after 7.15am. Once Bella had been ashore, we departed shortly after 7.40am in the general direction of Tarragona.

At anchor off Punta de la Banya

We returned to Brindabella on Saturday, after driving down through France and Spain over the past 7 days. We stopped in some great villages and towns on the way. Some were new such as the cheese town of Neufchatel and a walnut oil farm in Availles en Chatellerault and some we have been to before such [...]

Sant Carles de la Rapita

We are now in our final marina at Sant Carles de la Rapita, having completed the last sail of this spring's cruise.

Burriana

After two nights in Denia, we moved closer to Sant Carles, which is to be our final port for this spring. We chose Burriana which is large port containing a couple of marinas and was about halfway.

Denia

It was our last night in Ibiza and the last in the Balearics. We were heading to Denia on the mainland coast. Once out of the harbour, there was a steady F4 blowing. This gave us a great broad reach and powered the boat through the sea that was still running from last night. We put the autohelm on and [...]

Ibiza – Sant Antoni

Today we were moving around to Sant Antoni on the north west cost of Ibiza. This would position us for the return trip to the mainland. There were still large waves rolling into the anchorage at Cala Sant Vincent from the winds overnight. Getting Bella ashore was quite a challenge as the waves were breaking [...]

Ibiza – Cala Sant Vincent

Today, we left Mallorca to return to Ibiza. During our two stays in Mallorca we visited 8 ports over 22 nights. This included staying on anchor or buoy for 10 nights which are always some of the best.

Mallorca – Palma

We made a reservation for the Real Club Nautico Palma for a few days. We had tried to come here on our first trip to Mallorca in May, but there was a big regatta and all marinas in Palma were fully booked.

Mallorca – Colonia de Sant Jordi

Today, we came around the south west corner of Mallorca in search of a good anchorage that was out of the swell for the night. We looked at several, but many would not have been a comfortable anchorage. The one we chose was off Colonia de Sant Jordi. The anchorage was protected by a quay and some rocks, [...]

Mallorca - Port de Pollenca

13 May 2019
On Monday we moved the short distance from the anchorage at Cala Pidela Posada and into the harbour at Port de Pollenca. We were in the port for a few days meeting some friends from home.

We cleaned the boat on Tuesday and met Bob and Suzie in the evening for a meal on the harbour.

On Wednesday we drove out to the monastery at Lluc for a walk called "The Stairway to Heaven". The walk was a continuous steady climb from 500m up to 1080m, the views over the mountains and distant sea were stunning. At the top, there was a large deep dry-stone pit which we understand was used for storing ice. There were also some smaller pits used for making charcoal. We had an enjoyable evening meal at Bob and Suzie's hotel, with delicious local almond ice cream for dessert.

We cooked a meal for Bob and Suzie on board Brindabella on Wednesday night and did another shorter walk on Thursday. Bob drove us to the Cap de Formentor lighthouse which was a lovely drive through the valley, but we stopped short of the top, as there were a lot of cyclists and cars parked on the way up. We also visited Cala de Sant Vicenc which was a beautiful bay, enclosed with tall spiky rocks and aquamarine coloured water. We all had a delicious lunch in the beach café.

We were hoping to sail to Menorca on Friday, but some very strong winds were forecast, so after a final meal with friends on Thursday night, we left on Saturday.
