Isola di Giannutri

We have now reached the island of Giannutri which is one of the Tuscan islands. It is wild and exposed. The island forms a natural crescent shape, shallow enough to anchor close to the shore, otherwise it is too deep. There is a little harbour where the ferry lands. We anchored quite close to some rocks, [...]

Riva di Traiano

We motored round from Rome and the sea still had remnants of swell. Three and a half hours later, we reached the marina at Traiano. This is a large modern well protected marina with cafes, restaurants and chandleries.

Porto di Roma

At 8.30am, we slipped our lines at Nettuno and headed towards the port of Rome. It was warm, but the air was muggy with little wind. On the VHF radio, we heard a Force 7 to 8 gale warning for Corsica, broadcast in Italian, French and English. Simon had already seen on the forecast an increase in swell [...]

Nettuno

It was a calm day with a light wind, so we motorsailed from Ponza to the marina at Nettuno. We had been here last year and had to watch the depth at the marina entrance. In one patch the depth sounder recorded 2.7m, we draw 2.1m. On the approach to the marina, we prepared to tie up, alongside rather [...]

Isola di Ponza

After a brief walk around Ventotene, we had breakfast in a café and bought a few food items in a little grocery shop. It was calm at sea, and we saw an army helicopter overhead, that did a fly by and circled the boat twice.

Isola di Ventotene

After buying a few provisions, we left the island of Procida bound for the island of Ventotene.

Isola di Procida

It took two and a half hours to motor out from Naples to Marina Grande on the island of Procida.

Naples

Early in the morning, we were up walking Daisy and trying to decide whether to use Good Friday to travel to Naples. The forecast for the day was calm, but the following few days were going to be very windy. Simon had contacted Powerboat Marina in Santa Lucia, Naples and they replied that they had a berth [...]

Badia de Guillola

26 August 2020
Simon
On Wednesday, we moved out of Cadaques harbour and around the coast for a mile or so to the bay of Guillola. It’s a very attractive bay with two small beaches.

We had a lazy day, just swimming off the boat and reading. In the evening, we had a BBQ and a bottle of champagne. This was our last stop in Spain before arriving in France.

On my way back from taking Bella ashore at night, I saw a boat selling drink to another yacht. I rowed across and asked for two mojitos to be delivered to Brindabella. Shortly afterwards, he came across and made us the drinks. It was very enjoyable sitting on the back of the boat in the evening discussing the highlights of Spain.

We were sad to be moving on from Spain. There have been so many places we have enjoyed. Northern Spain is quite different from Southern Spain and the Balearics. All wonderful in their own way.

In Northern Spain we loved the quiet ports. Memorable times were the evening having pintxos (tapas) in San Sebastian, Gijon, tuna fishing at Laredo and anchoring in the rias on the north west coast.

After then we sailed down the coast of Portugal and onto Southern Spain. Here we enjoyed Cartagena, Aguadulce, Este. Last year we went out to the Balearics and sailed most of the coastline of Ibiza, Mallorca and Menorca. Highlights of the Balearics were Andraitx, Palma, Port Soller, Port de Pollenca and the anchorages that we visited around the islands.

On the southern coast we have enjoyed Estepona, Barcelona and Sitges. The coast of Costa Brava has been beautiful.
