Las Palmas - ARC+ 2018 Rally Preparations

10 November 2018
We have been in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria for just over a week now and have been busy preparing for the ARC+ 2018 Rally we starts tomorrow 11th November with the first leg with a 850nm passage down to Mindelo in the Cape Verde Islands, this will take about 6-7 days. We leave the Cape Verde islands on the 21st November heading for St Lucia in the Caribbean.

Our crew are all here on board with us now, with my brother Jeremy flying out last Monday and our friend Phil Onslow joining us last Thursday.

We have had a hectic schedule here not just with the full programme of seminars and demonstrations, but also have busy preparing the boat with safety inspections, fitting new equipment, servicing the engine and checking over our rigging, sails and equipment.

Alison has been very busy in provisioning the boat for 4 hungry crew for the next 5 weeks. This is quite a logistical task to make sure we the right provisions including fresh and fruit, veg and meat, and the tinned and packet food etc. This has to be planned so that we can have the fresh food as long as possible. We have also had to find space to stow all these provision on what already and very loaded boat...but it is nearly all done, just waiting for the meat to arrive later today.

We have not been able to get our UK Calor gas bottles refilled over here, this has been very frustrating and we have had to buy 5 Camping Gaz bottles to last us for our Atlantic crossing so that we can cook...and make tea for the crew.

Whilst we have been here in Las Palmas we have been tree planting as part of the ARC partnership with the Fundacion Canaria Para La Reforestation Project, this was a special day for us and something we were proud to be part of.

We start our adventure in earnest tomorrow lunch time, please do follow our progress. We intend to update this blog during our crossing.

You can also follow us via our YB tracker, this is a satellite tracking device and your can download a free app for Iphone or Android phones from www.ybtracking.com/race-app.php this free for your to download. Once you have the app download, go to Add Races > ARC 2018 > ARC+ 2018< and then search for Cerulean of Penryn ...its as easy as that...and you will see us trailing along near the bottom of the fleet.
