Thursday 9th May 2019 20:50(boat time)
After yesterdays day of tacking that progressed us only about 40nm closer to our destination, we tacked back onto course as the wind shifted round to the north in our favour from north east round about 08:00 (boat time) since then we have been making good progress towards Horta.
For the most part it has been a clear sunny day with fair winds, the cloud thickened and fhe wind increased just before supper time, to we reefed down about and altered course to bare away a little to more to the south to keep ourselves out of the stronger winds from the Low that has developed to the NE of us, so that we could have our beef chilli and rice in comfort without spiling the red wine (actually we don't drink alcohol whilst underway, it was just water). Yesterday's supper, if you are interested was polish Sausages and instant mash with onion gravy. I must say the food on this cruise has been excellent, as of course it always is.
We have not had to run the generator so much on this passage, as heading to windward the wind generator is working harder and producing more amps, than the downwind passages we had on our way over, also the temperature and in particular the see temperature is a lot lower, which means that the fridge and icebox are not having to work so hard at keeping our food cold. EWer have certainly noticed it getting colder after nine months of shorts, tea-shirts, flip flops we are now back to thick trousers, long sleave tops, jumpers, socks, deck shoes and sometimes full waterproofs and sea boots...we must be coming home.
