Laundry faff in Oban

21 June 2011 | Puilladobhrain to Oban: 6nm travelled
Nichola / Drizzle
Yesterday evening we took a walk over the hill to the 'Bridge Over The Atlantic'. We walked up over the humpback bridge with its grooves worn into the tarmac at the top from grounded vehicles, to step foot on mainland Scotland and then walked back again and had a beer at the Tigh an Truish pub. This translates into 'House of the Trousers' and is where the Jacobites changed from kilt to trousers before going on to the mainland back in the days when kilt wearing was banned.

We made it back to the boat without being eaten alive by the midges and watched a fantastic sunset over Mull. Unfortunately red sky at night didn't hold true for us, as the next morning was grey and overcast. By time we were leaving mid-morning a drizzle had set in which remained for the next 2 days.

It was a short trip to Oban and what little wind there was, was on the nose so we motored through the oily flat water past Kerrera, watching huge moon jellyfish float by.

By the time we got to the marina at Kerrera the drizzle had turned to proper rain. We caught the marina ferry to Oban and did round 1 of food shopping. Back to the marina and the start of laundry hell - first off the machine took our money but wouldn't start. No sign of the office manager but the lovely ferryman fixed the machine. Second off the machines took FOREVER to go through 1 cycle. Once washed there was a huge backlog for the dryers which also took forever. All in it took 6 hours to get a couple of loads done. Oh well, at least there wasn't much else to do in the rain.

The next morning we headed ashore for another shopping load and was ready to leave by early afternoon.

I didn't take any photos in Oban so I've put in a lovely sunset pic from Puilladobhrainn instead.
