Happy New Year from Lagos!
After a week back in Northern Ireland visiting Colin's family, we returned to Lagos on New Year's Eve ready to party. After a week of strong winds and heavy rains we were hoping we'd seen the last of them for a while, but unfortunately the rain must have followed us and the pontoon party turned into an umbrella party.
We got to try a Dutch speciality made by our friends Rene and Kees - they are called oliebollen and are similar to doughnuts with raisins inside. They were lovely and I ate quite a lot!

The rain soon passed and close to midnight we headed on down the Avenida with most of the rest of Lagos for fireworks. It was a good display in the now clear sky, we even caught a glimpse of Portimao's way in the distance.
Entertainment
There were lots of people out - we had entertainment from an old Portuguese man playing a catchy tune on his harmonica, more fireworks set off from the river wall (one of which went the wrong way and sent us running) and lots of local people to talk to. And of course a singing of 'old lang syne'.
Oh no we've run out of champers
Then it was back to South Bar for some dancing, chatting and more drinking until the wee hours.
