Some time ago (probably whilst drunk) we decided we would have a swim in the sea on new year's day. Now the day had arrived and with slight hangovers we headed down to Meia Praia with a good number of others from the marina. The weather was dry and mild with light winds, unfortunately the sun had disappeared behind clouds earlier in the day.

The sea was flat with almost high tide with breaking surf every so often. We reckoned the best approach was just to go for it rather than trying to gently ease our way in so with a little yelp we plunged into an approaching wave. Bit of a shock to the system at first but it soon became ok and quite pleasant. After a little swim about that was enough and I decided to ride a wave into shore. Oooh mistake! It was fun until my arm hit the sand getting myself a sand burn and a jarred shoulder. Those waves are very powerful. The next few hours were spent finding sand in all sorts of places!
